Voodoo Molly Vintage Paint

Very Exciting news we are now the proud stockists of Voodoo Molly Vintage paints. These are specialized designer paints for furniture, can be used indoors or outdoors and can achieve a high end painted finish or a more rustic time worn finish. They do not require a top coat, so perfect for all those painters out there who hate or struggle with waxing a piece when painted in traditional chalk paint.

Chalk Paint Finished Art Deco Display Cabinet

Everyone likes these cabinets and most homes have had or do have one similar, but no-one knows what to do with these.

We hunted for one of these at the right price for a while and it didn't have to be perfect as we had a plan. Change out all the glass for chicken wire and paint it white.

Sometimes you have to change your plans and go with the flow on a project, this did have broken glass panes but the door was lovely and in perfect condition, so we kept that and pulled out the glass on the sides only. We also pulled off the back, for two reasons:

 1/ it made it easier to paint inside 

 2/ it was the only way we could get the glass out and the wire in!

She was a bit more difficult to paint than I thought, esp the inside. This one was Oak so I painted a Voodoo Molly paint sealer on it first as I did not want any bleed through from the oak and broken varnish that is was finished with. This worked a treat and I only had to do two coats of paint and one of clear wax to get this finish.

Vintage Stencil Piecrust table with Chalk Paint

This piece started out as a sad little piecrust table on Trade Me auction site. Here is her before picture - not very inspiring is it?

Tables are not fantastic for resale but are a great project for trying new techniques and I always enjoy working on them. This one had a full pie crust around its edge which was pretty unique and it looked like it would take a stencil well. 

The original was in good condition just dirty, so I cleaned her up with water and sugar soap and then did 2.5 coats of white chalk paint, taking careful note to ensure the paint did not clog or drip around the pie crust. Then I distressed with a medium sandpaper and choose this Paris Wreath Barelycorn Vintage stencil in a French Grey and sanded back once it was dry. Completed with clear wax. I love how the stencil is muted by choosing two neutral soft colours and she looks ready for her new home now.

Another custom mix Duck Egg Blue transformation

I love this custom mix Duck Egg Blue mix and as it has so much depth to the colour I really like to paint it on a piece with clean simple lines. This is an op shopped solid wood chest which had huge ugly yellow and silver plastic knobs on it originally! She was in excellent condition so only took a small amount of prep work, a smooth chalk paint job, subtle distressing and some clear wax to finish. The knobs got changed out for some tiny crystal ones.

Grungy Op Shop Bedsides transformed with Chalk Paint

This is one of my amazing Friday Finds. Out op shopping on a Friday and I came across a bedroom set ( 2 x bedsides and a dresser) with loads of old charm and heaps of details. They were in the worse shape , terrible flaking varnish, but solid wood and all drawers slide well. I knew I could get in trouble with bleed through if I went a really light color, so I saved myself some heart ache and work on these, and chose French Grey chalk paint, light but with enough tint to cover any problems. As they were very ornate I let the pieces speak for themselves and added quite a bit of distressing, clear and dark wax for a really time worn appearance.

They turned out well and now I can't wait to start on the dresser.
