Spring Green CFF painted Op shop Chest

As soon as I received this CFF chalk furniture finish colour I knew I had to try it, it had a vintage old feel to it and is called Spring Green.

Last Friday op shopping I found this very ordinary solid wood chest and knew this was the one. A vintage stencil, well sanded back for a timeworn look and cracked porcelain knobs and she is complete. I like the simpleness of the chest against the spring green colour.

Cane Side Table redone - Friday Finds

Remember that cute side table I found last Friday with the cane shelf? If not here is the before picture, along with my other Friday Finds from last week...I may have only posted these on my Facebook page and not my blog, find my Facebook page here https://www.facebook.com/ppvilladesign

Here she is all finished with CFF (chalk furniture finish nz) French Grey chalk paint. Cane is very easy to paint, you just need to ensure you have very little paint on your brush and work each area slowly in a criss cross motion to cover it. Paint brings out all the lovely detail of the cane, making it the feature of this little table. I am always drawn to a piece with cane in it as it adds a classic and interesting dimension to an otherwise very plain piece.

Vintage Ladder with chalk paint Dry Brush Technique

Who dosen't love a great before and after? Good wooden ladders I find hard to pass up if the price is right. Above is the after, and here is the before in the picture I saw online to purchase it

She looks a bit wonky in the before picture but luckily she was fine when I picked her up. I painted her in a dark grey/brown chalk paint, thinking she was heading into our garden, but she painted up really well and so she hung around in my studio for a while. Then I was painting with meringue ( a pure white chalk paint by CFF) on something else and she ended up being dry brushed. I have posted about this before in my blog and it is a really good technique to use if you want to add some interest to a piece, especially if it is rustic or has some raw wood detail on it.

You can see in the pictures how it uses the natural dents and flaws in a piece and highlights them as features.

This ladder will end up in someones home now and not the garden. Perfect as a display or storage piece.

Queen Anne Tall boy painted in custom Duck Egg Blue

This is one of my most favourite colours to paint with, it is a custom mix of Duck Egg blue chalk paint.

Here is my secret recipe : I layer an olive or dark green chalk paint on my piece first and then one layer of Duck Egg Blue chalk paint. When I distress I make sure I go through to the wood and not the green, as I want the dark wood to peak though and the green to give a depth to the colour on the piece. To finish one layer of clear wax. I hope you like it.

Crystal pulls - another favourite

Another favourite is crystal knobs or pulls on a Queen Anne piece, I love how they add that little bit of bling ( everyone needs some bling in their life, admit it!) that dress a piece up a bit.

Old China Cabinet Makeover

I love chicken wire, I will put it into anything if I could. I am always on the look out for new sideboards which might have double thickness cupboards or ugly glass panels, in case the inside can be removed and chicken wire replaced it.

I had been looking for one of these cabinets for a long time, I specifically wanted it to sit on legs ( more elegant) and I wanted to replace all of the glass.

This piece came to me with one side smashed, but the other side and door in tact. The door was lovely so I only removed the two side panels for the chicken wire treatment and kept the original glass door. Painted in Chalk Furniture Finish paint, Antique colour, clear waxed and recycled door knob.

So here she is , a little bit vintage and a little bit industrial.
